New Happenings for the New Year

Two events happened this week that makes me wonder about my place in this world. The first was that I have become the new President of the Greater Salem Artist Association (GSAA). I was sick but showed up on Thursday’s monthly meeting. It has been a long time since I have made this kind of commitment so I am little nervous because I want to make the other members proud. I have been part of professional groups but this is art, which has always been my passion. Wish me luck!

Now, the second event was that my baby girl turned 40. How is that possible when I still see her at eight climbing out of the water of “Lower Falls” along the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountains of New Hampshire? She had blue lips from sliding for hours on the rocks. Shivering, she begged me to let her go back in as I rubbed the towel up and down her body trying to warm her. I told her it was time for lunch, but because she asked so sweetly, I told her she could go back in for 5 more minutes. She squealed like the little girl she was and turned to run back into the water. That is when I noticed that she had two quarter size holes in the butt of her brand new bathing suit.

This is my song/poem for you . . . . Remember Gina?

“Forever Young” by Rod Stewart
May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
surround you when you’re far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you’d have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
with a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
and in my heart you will remain
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young
Forever Young

And when you finally fly away
I’ll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I’m right behind you, win or lose
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young ,Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
For, Forever Young, Forever Young

I do remember that day somewhat and that I needed to get a new bathing suit. It was a really cool place to swim!! I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll always be your “baby” no matter how old I get! *smile* (And that you’ll actually tell the world about the holes in my suit!)

I’m really proud of you for deciding to lead the GSAA! That’s so awesome.

And for those of you who can’t remember the song, here’s the video from YouTube:

Love you Mom!!
